Western Iowa No-till (WIN) Field Day June 12

The annual Western Iowa No-till (WIN) Demonstration Field Day is set for June 12 at the Carstens 1880 Farmstead. Field day topics will include managing planter settings in heavy residue areas, use of cover crops to improve soil structure, a marketing update and weather outlook. Keynote speaker is Paul Jasa, extension engineer with University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Nutrition Education Is Part of Immersion in Wellness Camp Experience

Each summer, campers from all over the state visit the Iowa 4-H Center for a week of camp fun. This year, youth enrolled in two camps, Everything Camp and Counselors in Training Camp, will have the opportunity to participate in a research study conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach targeted toward lowering childhood obesity in the state.

National Sheep Symposium Looks at Ways to Increase Sheep Numbers

The National Sheep Symposium will bring top sheep production experts from across the United States to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa on July 27 and 28. Speakers will discuss how to increase the number of lambs born per ewe, increase the survival of lambs born and improve the lean meat yield from those lambs.

CIRAS-Nominated Hagie Manufacturing Receives National Award

The 2012 Excellence in Innovation Award was presented to Hagie Manufacturing of Clarion, Iowa, by the National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership on May 8, in Orlando, Fla. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Center for Industrial Research and Service nominated the company for the award.
