Three Iowa youth received third-place awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, May 14-19 in Los Angeles, Calif.  Eight Iowa students were awarded the opportunity to attend or participate in the international event at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa held in March.

A Story County team of Iowa 4-H’ers captured third place in the AKSARBEN 4-H Quiz Bowl. The event was part of the 89th AKSARBEN Stock Show & Rodeo in Omaha, Neb.

4-H teams from Muscatine, Jackson, Story, O’Brien and Louisa counties will represent Iowa at national 4-H livestock and meats judging contests from October through January. The teams earned the privilege to represent Iowa 4-H after they received top honors in the 2016 4-H/FFA State Livestock and Meats Judging Contests.

The Commodity Carnival gives Iowa youth a chance to be educated and have fun at the Iowa State Fair, Aug.11-21, and 18 county fairs. This interactive, hands-on game shows youth the behind-the-scenes components and challenges of animal production.

Iowa 4-H youth will take advancement of agriculture one step further by solving a real-world agriculture challenge. They’ll be leading the kickoff "Honey Bee Challenge” during the Drake/Metro STEM event, Thursday, April 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bell Center on the Drake University campus in Des Moines. The free event is open to the public.

4-H teams from Benton, Muscatine, Scott and Washington counties will represent Iowa in upcoming national 4-H livestock and meats judging contests. The teams earned the right to represent Iowa 4-H after receiving top honors in the 2015 4-H/FFA State Livestock and Meats Judging Contests.

Delaware County’s Senior Dairy Quiz Bowl Team, Delaware #1, placed first in the annual 4-H Youth Dairy Quiz Bowl, held June 10 at the Starmont High School in Arlington. The team will represent Iowa 4 H at the National 4 H Dairy Quiz Bowl in Louisville, Ky., in November.

Eighty-five youth participated in the 2014 4-H/FFA State Livestock Judging Contests held in the new Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center.

4-H teen leaders will be helping youth through a new interactive Commodity Carnival game that will be featured at the Iowa State Fair and eight county fairs in Iowa.
