The 50th anniversary of Iowa State University’s Horticulture Research Station will be celebrated Sept. 16 at the farm near Ames.

Only one acre is planted, with nearly 1,000 plants, but it required a lot of work and a team of horticulturists to accomplish the new hops endeavor at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station north of Ames.

Nick Howell, ISU Horticulture Research Station superintendent and a former student of Buck’s, continues the strong tradition of rose research at Iowa State. Earth-Kind® trials are helping identify the most consistently beautiful, low-care, pest tolerant roses for our region. Howell's website www.extension.iastate.edu/earthkind has information about Earth-Kind trials, Iowa State research and Buck roses.
