John D. Lawrence serves as Iowa State University Interim Vice President for Extension and Outreach.

The Iowa State University Vice President for Extension and Outreach provides leadership for the statewide unit of the university responsible for delivering on the land-grant mission of teaching, research, and service for the public good. The Vice President works across the university to provide programs that share information and technology to educate and innovate, and provides advice and counsel to the Provost and the President on ISU Extension and Outreach issues. The Vice President is the Director of Cooperative Extension for Iowa State University.

Leading critical issues

  • Our Growing Together project has donated more than 62,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables into the Iowa food pantry system through extension nutrition education, Master Gardeners, and ISU Research and Demonstration Farms.
  • We’re helping producers examine their finances, evaluate alternatives, and make informed decisions as they cope with decreasing commodity prices and lower net farm income.

Leading growth

  • ISU Extension and Outreach is a key player for economic development efforts in the university’s strategic plan.
  • Our Conference Planning and Management team and the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted more than 350,000 people for professional development, training, and youth events.
